of mind and heart
overtook her.
She sought comfort.
From bottles
and men.
But,
nothing soothed as quickly
as a cut.
Shiny silver,
pressed to skin.
A quick draw,
to show the red.
Sweet relief.
For the moment.
Until the pain
reared it's ugly head,
again.
More silver.
More red.

The day she cut too deep.
The day the red kept coming.
The day she fought back.
She won against the silver and red,
with time.
They still call her name.

When her mind clouds,
readying for a storm.
She hasn't answered in years.
Lets hope she never does.

My mother had a friend whom was bipolar. I witnessed only a few of her, er, breakdowns, but I still dont entirely understand what it is. I was wondering if you could explain it.
